Day 1 - UK Departure

Depart the UK with international flight to Hanoi.

Day 2 - Arrival Hanoi

Arrival and welcome at the airport in Hanoi. Transfer to check in at the hotel. Begin your Vietnamese adventure exploring the diversified architecture of Hanoi and its famous 36 streets of Old Quarter by a combined tour between walking and taking a cyclo ride. We end today walking around Hoan Kiem Lake – a symbol of Hanoi city.

Day 3 - Hanoi

Full day tour of Vietnam’s capital city, including Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the traditional stilt house and the reserved One-Pillar Pagoda. Then we visit the Quan Thanh temple and Tran Quoc pagoda, dating back to early 10th century which is considered as the most ancient pagodas in Hanoi. Following lunch we tour to the thousand-year-old Temple of Literature to have a glimpse at Vietnam’s first university. Transfer back to the city centre to take a walk through Hang Be market – one of the most famous markets in Hanoi thanks to its diversified goods and nice display. Take this chance to take a look at locals’ daily life as well as capturing some memorable pictures. In the evening, enjoy the traditional water puppet show. (B)

NOTE: Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum closes from September to November for annual maintenance. Emperor Tours will organize the visit outside.

Day 4 - Hanoi to Mai Chau

This morning we depart to North West of Hanoi for Mai Chau on a picturesque road through the valley. Located in a beautiful valley, Mai Chau is an area of minority White Thai for several centuries. Arrive in Mai Chau at around noon time. Check in at a traditional stilt house of the Thai in Pom Coong village then enjoy your lunch at the same house. In the afternoon we start trekking through sceneries of rice paddies and mountains. After about 3hours walking we arrive at villages of Nhot and Na Phon to meet up with local people and observe their daily life activities. Back to home-stay place for relaxation and dinner. (B/L/D)

Day 5 - Mai Chau to Ninh Binh

After breakfast, depart from Mai Chau to Ninh Binh passing Nho Quan. Plains, sugar land and waterfalls are observed on the way, offering us one of the most picturesque countryside landscape of Vietnam. On the way, we stop at a village in Nho Quan, where you will enjoy your lunch with the locals. In the early afternoon you will be transferred to Gia Hung village, where a pleasant bicycle ride (10km) on the dike along the Boi river is offered to you, to discover the villages of the delta and their inhabitants. Upon arrival at Van Long, embark a small rowing boat for a 1.5hour cruise through rice paddies and spectacular rocky peaks, canals and vegetation. Transfer to Ninh Binh in late afternoon. (B/L)

Day 6 - Ninh Binh to Ha Long Bay

Morning departure towards Ha Long. We will arrive in Ha Long Bay at around noon. Upon arrival at Ha Long harbour we board on a beautiful wooden junk for a 24-hour cruise on Bay with an excellent menu of fresh seafood. Overnight on board. (B/L/D)

Day 7 - Ha Long to Hanoi to Hue

After breakfast on board we keep cruising on the bay. Back to the pier and disembark at around 11.00am. Return to Hanoi passing vast expanse of rice fields of the Red river delta. Transfer directly to the airport of Hanoi for our flight to Hue. Welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel for check in. (B)

Day 8 - Hue

Early this morning take a bicycle ride through winding path along Perfume River to visit the Thien Mu pagoda. On the way, visit a typical garden house of Hue city, which was built according to precise rules of geomancy, and experience the serene and pleasant feelings it might bring you. After exploring the pagoda we board a boat trip to visit Minh Mang mausoleum. In the afternoon our journey continues to discover Tu Duc mausoleum and Tu Hieu pagoda. (B)

Day 9 - Hue to Danang to Hoi An

In the morning we depart to Hoi An via the scenic Hai Van Pass to enjoy one of the most beautiful panoramas in Vietnam as you look out over the central coastline.  You will also pass through the quiet, white sandy beach of Lang Co along the way. We will have time to visit the Cham Museum in Danang en-route. (B)

Day 10 - Hoi An

In the morning enjoy a bike ride to visit the village of vegetables - Tra Que (located 5kms - 20 minutes cycling from Hoi An). Together with local people in their daily work, you will learn how to plant and water vegetables. Then learn to cook some local specialities, for example “Tam Huu”, a set of shrimps, pork and aromatic herbs, and enjoy what you have done after cooking. Return to Hoi An in the middle of afternoon. Take a stroll to visit Hoi An town, explore the quaint cobblestone streets of the town with more than two-century-old Chinese houses. Sites include the Japanese Bridge, the Chinese Temple, and Phung Hung Chinese-style trading house. (B/L)

Day 11 - Hoi An to Saigon

Depart Hoi An for the airport in Danang for the flight to Saigon. Welcome at the airport and transfer to the city for a visit to the ethnic Chinese quarter of Cho Lon with the Binh Tay market and Thien Hau Pagoda. Check in at the hotel. Later continue to visit various pagodas in Saigon and to see the daily life in different districts of the city. (B)

Day 12 - Saigon

Today we depart from Saigon to explore Ben Tre in the Mekong delta. Upon arrival at Ben Tre town, take a motor boat trip around Ben Tre River with several stops to visit a nice brick kiln where you could see how bricks are made, coconut fruits processing and some families in Cai Son and Thanh Nhon channel, who make sleeping mats. Enjoy fresh fruit and green tea while relaxing at a local house. Continue the trip by bicycle or by taking a motor cart passing by rice fields and vegetable plains. Lunch at a local house. In the afternoon, take a rowing-boat along small channels to a rice making workshop then visit an ancient house. Back to the main road for transfer to Saigon in the late afternoon. (B/L)

Day 13 - Saigon Departure

Free time until transfer to the airport for the departure flight. (B)
